58 Obituary as appeared in Elberton Star Newspaper, Feb 13th, 1912.

"Mrs. Maria Powell, one of the oldest ladies in the county, died at the residence of her son W. W. Powell in Moss District, Feb. 6th, 1912, at the advanced age of 96 years.

Mrs. Powell was in splendid health up till the time of her death, and died sitting in a chair. She was a woman of strong constitution and had been sick but little in her life. She was the mother of ten children, and had the burden of raising them as her husband and two sons were sacrificed in the cruel war. She was a consistent member of the New Bethel Church, and was buried at Rock Branch. Her life as a Christian is worthy of emulation."
